welcome message for new employee

A new employee is going to be nervous on their first day. The onus lies on you as the manager to make the first move to ensure that they have a great tenure at the company. A welcome message like a simple -” Hey! great to have you on the team.” for a new employee is a great way to usher them into the fold. It helps them feel comfortable on their first day and offers a window into what their journey in the organization is going to be.

There are a number of different ways you can go about creating the perfect welcome message for new employee, we have added a couple of welcome message examples at the bottom to help you get started.

Looking for celebratory messages to send to colleagues on other occasions? Take a look at these Thanksgiving missives, Christmas wishes, thank you messages, and compliments for coworkers.

1. Why Are Welcome Messages Important?

Why Are Welcome Messages Important?

Welcome messages for new employees are important as it shows them that you acknowledge them as a part of your team and are excited to have them join. These messages are traditionally short and sweet and are created to make a great first impression and positive experience.

This in turn helps set the tone for the employee's entire employment life cycle thus boosting the employee retention rate. It is also an important part of creating the right work culture which is linked to higher productivity and engagement levels.

2. How to Write a Welcome Message?

2.1. Start With a Greeting

Begin your message with a greeting i.e. “Welcome or Glad to have you onboard”. This helps set the tone for the rest of the message and also allows your new employee to understand what the message contains. If your choice of communication is an email, then you can add the greeting in your subject line.

2.2. Use a Friendly and Positive Tone

It is important to keep the tone of your welcome message friendly and show your new team member that you are excited to work with them. You can use the welcome message for new employees to tell them about the department, the basic role in the organization, the broad strokes of what your industry is and how you aid in the bottom line of the organization.

2.3. Inform Them About the Organization and Its Values

The welcome message should also contain a few lines regarding the company’s core values and basic information. This will help new employees better prepare for their time in the organization. Even though chances are they have already seen it online, you can still educate them regarding the mission and vision of the organization, its old school but it creates a good impact.

2.4. Tell Them You are Here

Let’s be honest there is nothing better than knowing that someone has your back on your first day at work. Instead of feeling like a deer in headlights, your new employee will immediately feel like they belong. A good welcome message for new employee should include relevant information such as support contact details, first day schedule or even just a warm greeting to break the ice
